My Christms Day stitching

This is "Love to Thee" by Little by Little Designs. I have had this in my stash forever and was in the mood to start something new Christmas Eve and finally got this one out. I am stitching it with the recommended DMC floss on 14 ct white, which looks gray in the photo. It is 50% finished and because I have today off also, I hope to finish this later, or at the very least this week sometime. I hope you all had a lovely holiday, we did.....Nancy

Two recent finishes......

I finished both of these LHN designs recently. I never have time to post my finishes but luckily have time enough to stitch them! The Counting House was stitched on blue Luagna 28 ct using overdyed floss and Liberty 1776 is on 14 ct potato aida using DMC conversion supplied. I didnt care for the colors that much and was going to change them to a more red, white and blue palette but then I realized the colors coordinate perfectly with my new comforter and shams. The Counting house will be made into a pillow and Liberty will be framed. Thanks for looking. Today is my birthday and I plan on stitching , blogging and quilting all day! Nancy

Back in June of 2010 I posted a picture of my backyard with the built in pool. I wanted to get rid of it and I did! We will be adding a deck to the back of the house and re-doing the landscaping. Pictures in the spring when there is progress to show!

This is "Three Crows". It is almost at the model stitchers house. I mailed it to her today! She is a speedy stitcher. I am hoping to have it back for release in February. This is stitched on 28 ct Lambswool linen using DMC floss. It is all cross stitch except for the line down the house and window in the door. The design size on 28 ct over two is 8-1/8 wide x 5-1/4 high.

Ans this is Floral Fantasy. I have contracted Ghost Stitcher's for the stitching. I have never used them before but have heard very good things about them. This is stitched on 28 ct Lugana and uses DMC floss also. There are a ton of specialty stitches in this one. I was going to use this as a class design but used another one in its place. The design size is 4-3/4 w x 11-1/8 high. Stay tuned for more new ones! And Merry Christmas to all....Nancy

I started the Blackbird Design quite a long time ago and just picked it back up to finish it. I am trying to finish on WIP before starting a new design. Well, I finished this, so I started Sheepish Designs~Betsy. I have wanted to stitch that one forever and finally got around to starting her. I hd trouble deciding on the fabric to use and finally settled on 14 ct khaki aida using good old DMC floss! I love the way it's coming out so far.
Yesterday I assembled charts and got my orders ready for mailing. Whew! That was a lot of paper and envelopes. I have to go to the post office during my luch hour today and get it all mailed out.

I just finished this adorable freebie that I got off a site but do not know who designed this! I cannot believe anyone would not put some kind of indentifier on their work, boggles the mind. I like the design and would go check out other designs if I knew who did it. Anyhow, enough ranting.......I used a piece of cream aida and Crescent Colors in the following: Blackbird, Desert Mesquite, Used Brick, Sassy Brass, English Ivy, Bramble Bush, & Roasted Chestnut. I have been trying to use more CC and will certainly give them another try in some of my designs. Some of the colors are gorgeous. Ladybug is my all tiem fav of theirs.

New finish!

Yesterday I finished this LHN design. It was a fun stitch. Of course I did change some things.......I used 434, 729, 3633, 3031, 3363, 3865, 3362, GAST Mascara and Buttermilk. I have no idea what the fabric is, it was in my stash. I think it is 14 ct beige.

I know I have been MIA from my Blog. Work schedule is taking over my life, and I don't mean the Glory Bee work. The "real job".

But I am still working at Glory Bee whn possible. I will be releasing Birds of a Feather and Autumn Sampler seen on the right. I will have better pics soon. Also I finally bought a sampler to reproduce but it is not dated so I don't know the age. I bought it from a person in England. I finished charting it on Saturday and will start stitching it today. I was thinking of using GAST wools but now am leaning towards Gloriana silks. We'll see.

One of my many recent finishes!

I just finished this last night and had to post about it. It is a kit by Little House Needleworks and came with the floss. I have not been a huge fan of Crescent Colors floss because of the colors I have gotten in my kits not being true to the picture, however, I was thrilled with this kit~~design and floss. CC are nice to stitch with, never had an issue with them for that reason. So you may see me using more of them in the future, personally and in my designs. I did this design according to the chart except I did not stitch the two bees and I added one bee button. I also used 28 ct natural linen. I enjoyed each and every stitch. Diane is such a talented designer!

I have been so busy with my "real job" that I don't have enough time to read the stitching boards or update my Blog as much as I did in the past. Luckily, I do find time to stitch just as much as I previously did. I just got a promotion at work and my hours changed and my responsibilities changed and thankfully my pay changed as well. I liked the job before but now I LOVE it. So I apologize for the lack of posts to the Blog.

I have some more finishes but cannot find the camera and they are already framed. I finshied Lizze*Kate's Land That I Love Now and Then, also from a magazine Bird of a Feather's Cute as a Bug and I found the most perfect frame for it. Primitive with the same paint colors as are in the design.

My husband has open water students out in the ocean today for their final scuba test! Water is tooooo cold for me 47 degrees. I am planning on going to the gym then some sewing today. Hopefully I will be better about posting here!

This is Spring Tulips by Blackbird Designs. I changed a few things starting with the fabric and colors. I did not have the CC called for so I used the DMC they suggested. I did blue around the heart instead of dark tan and did Smyrna crosses instead of eyelet stitches along the bottom. I love the colors. It looks nothing like the model picture but I like my brighter version too! If you would like this chart add a comment to this post and I will choose a winner sometime in the next day or two. Next up is Ira Ray Crow by Goode Huswife. I already stitched Ida Mae and made her into a pillow. He just needs the flowers stitched at the top of the stalks and then this will be finished as a pillow too. I think these are two of the cutest patterns she has done and I am so sorry she will no longer be designing. I am posting 2 new Glory Bee designs in the sidebar. GB-101 Liberty & Justice is a companion piece to Give Thanks. There will be more in this series. Halloween and Christmas for sure! This was stitched on 28 ct Cashel Summer Khaki using Smapler Threads. I LOVE Sampler Threads! They are a joy to work with.
GB-102 Stitch Count was inspired by a saying my friend Karin J said one day. I loved it and decided to chart it. Thanks Karin! It is stitched on 30 ct natural linen using DMC floss.

Long time between posts!

I actually finished something recently. This is LHN's Snow White. Of course I changed it a bit. I stitched mine on 16 ct aida using Weeks Dye Works floss in Blue Heron. I absolutely love that color! Diane used different fabric and white floss. I am not wild about stitching with all white so I reversed the color scheme.
Today I am going to the gym and then off to my monthly stitch group. I have to stop and pick up a dessert on the way there. Something chocolate I'm thinking. After all tomorrow is Valentine's Day! I will be working on my ornament for the 2011 Just Cross Stitch ornament issue today. I am using Sullivan's floss for the first time. A local shopowner raved about it so I am trying it. Feedback I'm hearing is, they like it! Off to work out. I hope you find time to stitch today!

Finishes and a Giveaway!

Happy New Year! I have a couple finishes from 2010 to show you. The first is Lizzie Kate's Snowman for 2010. Isn't he cute! I did change a few things. I really didn't like the idea of a pink bird, so I shooed him away, and put in more snowflakes. I also used colors I had on hand but they match her model fairly close. I think he is one of the cutest designs she has ever released. And if you agree, leave a reply on this post and I will draw a name tomorrow morning and that lucky persn will receive this chart!

I also finally put the year on my Little House Needleworks ornament. I stitched this in 2010 but decided I would put 2011 on it since it'll be diaplayed this year. Of course I made changes to that pattern as well. I changed the flowers to red instead of white, eliminated the snow on the trees and the snowflakes and added the year. I also used colors I had on hand although again they look very similar to what was used in the model.

Last but not least is the design I started on New Years Day. It is Ewe & Eye & Friends Primitive Liberty. I used 25 ct Wedgewood Lugana and Gentle Art Buckeye Scarlet, Midnight, Blue Jay, Walnut, Chalk, and Butternut Squash. All I hve left to do it the remaining border and an alphabet above the flag. I should be done in a day or so.

I do not make resolutions and I refuse to join that 2011 Challenge where you start 15 new projects. I have too many WIP's and UFO's now. I am going to attemp to finish 12-15 of those. If I get 5 done I will be happy.

I have 2 new designs coming out soon. Hopefully for the Grand Opening of Bush Mt Stitchery in Ware MA on Jan 22nd and Jan 29th. I will be there with my trunk show and a class piece. We are taking sign-ups those days and having the class in February sometime. I plan on going there next Tuesday, the 11th and taking my models and the class piece so you can see it. Fun thing are being planned so I hope to see you there.

Exchange and finishes

First up is a beautiful pinkeep I received from Claudia in Italy. The pinkeep is stitched using an overdyed red floss and there are gold beads all over it. The ribbon says Merry Christmas and the little bell actually rings! She also included a nice card and freebie (not pictured) and a skein of Valdani overdyed floss in Old Brick as well as a scissor jewel, which is not showing up well in this photo, but it is very sparkle~y and Claudia makes these!!!! Her blog address is linked to her name if you wish to contact her about these. Thank you so much Claudia, I love what you stitched for me and will treasure it!

Next is LHN's Red House, which I used my own color palette and also decided not to stitch the white flowers beside the house. The looked to much like daisy's to me. I may also stitch the year 20~10 on either side above the trees. I loved stitching this, as I do all of Diane's designs!

Last but not least is La D Da's Live Love Laugh. Again I used the colors from my stash which are: GAST Raven, Mulberry and Shutter Green. I used an old old old piece of 28 ct Quaker cloth I found in my stash that was at least 15 years old called Quaker Tan. I still have a bit more to stitch as well as another border around the whole thing. It has been fun to stitch.

LHN~Red House in Winter

I started this last night. Of course I picked out the colors I had, instead of searching forever in my tangled DMC stash! I also changed the bottom of the house somewhat. The designer put snow up the right side of the house and I leveled it off. I also don't think I will stitch the flowers in between the house and trees, but that's just me. I got into designing because I ALWAYS change something about a design. That is not to say the designs of others I stitch are not wonderful as they are, it's just my nature. Anyhow, this is coming along nicely and I hope to finish it be they end of this week.

About that tangled DMC floss~that is on my many lists of things to do. I file my DMC in Flossaway bags then put them on big 3" rings in order numerically. However, once I start pulling them off the rings and using them they never seem to go back on the rings. They end up in a storage drawer biding their time. Well, it's time to organize them again. This will probably be an all day project because after I do those I have all my lines of everdyed floss to do also. If I'm not back in a week, send a search party................Nancy

My friend, Karen, and I went to Thistle Needleworks a couple weeks ago and I had to have this design. It is by Ewe &Eye & Friends, called Queen Ant. It was stitched on a slightly darker purple linen but this is what I had so I used it. I think I will sew this into a little pillow to put in a bowl on the buffet. I have so many little things finished that I think that would be a nice way to display them. I will be giving this chart to someone, all you have to do is post a comment to this and you're entered. Glory Bee News

These are two new Glory Bee designs. I am not certain when they will be released but I am hoping for the Nashville Market time frame in February 2011. Liberty & Justice is a companion piece to Give Thanks and there will also be a Christmas design and maybe a Halloween one also! That model as stitched on 28 ct Summer Khaki Cashel linen using DMC floss. Thanks for finishing my model Marlane! Stitch Count was stitched by Kim on 30 ct Natural linen using DMC floss as well. I hope you like them and look for them in February, or sooner if I can!

Look for a new shop opening in Massachusetts in January. Bush Mountain Stitchery is coming to Ware, MA in January sometime. The people in Pennsylvania will miss them but hey it's only about a 6 hour drive~~~road trip! I plan on being at the opening with my Trunk Show and MaeAnn and I have dscussed offering a class a few weeks after the Grand Opening. You will be able to see the project at the opening and sign up onsite! It promises to be a great time. As soon as I get the final dates for the Grand Opening I will post them here.

Teaching at Bush Mt Stitchery will most likely be my last teaching gig. I have decided not to teach classes any longer to be able to devote the time needed to designing. I have so much fun teaching but it takes too much tme away from designing. And I have some wondrful designs planned for 2011!

Where did September go?

I have been in a stitching slump lately and this is the design that revitalized me! It is a free design from Little House Needleworks. It was stitched on 16 ct aida using Gentle Art Sampler Threads. I changed them of course. I also changed the color of the door and chimney from what was charted. I also made a boo-boo. I should have had another row in the flower pot, oh well.......I loved stitching it!
I have two pieces out at model stitchers now. Actually I did get one in yesterday but I still have to frame it. It is called Liberty & Justice. It will be released with U.S. Sampler which will be ready in a month or two. I hav other irons in the fire, so to speak. I will be updating the sidebar later with pictures of the next two to be released this week. GB-99 Give Thanks and GB-100!!!!!!! Seasonal Sampler. Both of these are retired class pieces. They both have specialty stitches in them but they are very easy pieces to stitch. And if you don't like specialty stitches you can replace them with cross stitches and do the piece on aida if you wish. Easy peasy!
I'm also trying to get ready for Stitcing Jubilee in Lancaster Oct 14-16. I am teaching four classes there and need to get going on my kits this week! I am excited about going. Each year the merchandise mall gets better and better. Will you be there? Info on the right---------------------------------------->

Legacy Board Pinkeep Exchange Received!

Yesterday I received the cutest pinkeep from Judy! This is from the Legacy Board pinkeep exchange. I love participating in these exchanges. I have gotten the most lovely things from each of them. This is an adorable little sheep and it is backed with the same checked fabric. There are some pearly white pins all around which don't show in the picture. And I also scanned the envelope she sent the note in. It is hand drawn. Very nice Judy, I love it! Thanks so much.

Designing and stitching this month

I have been stitching this month as you can plainly see, LOL! However, I actually sent out two models to be stitched. Should I be doing them myself, what a difficult decision. Oh well, I have some wonderful model stitchers and these two gals are so good and quick stitchers also.

Above, I finished this cute mermaid design. I bought this a few years ago at Celebration of Needlework. It came as a kit. I used the floss but not the fabric and there is enough floss to stitch it again. Whoever is the first to email me that they want it can have the kit, what's left of it.

The next piece is by The Marking Samplar. It is a repro and I did not do it as such. I loved the border and colors, and changed them somewhat also. The design is true to the chart except for the personalization section which I am still working on. I think I will make this an annversary sampler for friends upcoming 30th anniversary in October. Stay tuned.

I have had a very busy week. I had to send in orders to my distributors, reprints, shop orders, etc etc etc. I love that my stitching hobby became a job, which really doesn't feel like work!

Speaking of work~ in a post below you can see the sampler, Liberty and Justice, which I started. I just sent this out to be completed. Thanks Marlane!!!! I also mailed out a design as yet un-named. It is a surprise. But I think you'll like it. Thanks Kim!!!!

My husband has been working on my charts for Lancaster. Stitching Jubilee is about 6 weeks away! I can't wait. I have 4 classes there this year and the shopping looks like heaven on earth. Will you be there?

Another finish!

Sorry the scan is a little wavy at the bottom. I loved every second of stitching this cute guy! Of course I had to change it a bit. I added the red to the package and changed the color of the bird to red. I just thought it needed a bit of POP! I didn't have the overdyed floss called for so I used Gentle Art's Dried Thyme (package & scarf) and Toffee for the star and bottom checked border. Other than that I used the DMC listed and used 16 ct dirty aida by Zweigart. I just love these monthly ornaments and was glad to read that they will continue in 2011!

I have to say I was sort of addicted to reading a certain stitching board. That board has many different posts, not just stitching. Well, I am happy to say that I have been soooooo very busy with my designing and everything else that I am finally breaking the habit of spending (wasting) too much time on the boards! I think I will use my free time to read other Blogs, much more enjoyable to me.

On the designing front, I am still working on Liberty & Justice. I go to my monthly stitch group today and get to stitch for about 7 hours, so hopefully I will get a lot of stitching done on that. I am still waiting to hear back from a magazine about Seasonal Sampler. I offered it to a magazine and if they use it I will not release it for about another year or so. Give Thanks should be up next. I hope to have that out in time for Stitching Jubilee. That may be released with U.S. Sampler.

We attended our dive club's Lobster Fest outing yesterday. Those who wish to dive go out and catch lobster and we meet up at a members house and have a cookout. Now catching lobster is not as easy as it sounds! The are QUICK, and you have to catch them by hand and put them in a catch bag. I have never actually caught one but I am a good spotter. My husband is good at catching them. Nothing tastes as good as lobster absolutely fresh out of the ocean!

The other piece I have been working on is We The People. I finished it late last night and will photograph it this week sometime and post it.

Stitching pictures

I managed to stitch a bit more on Liberty & Justice. I have to get back to this so I can release the chart! Ever since the preview I have had so many requests for it. Soon I promise.......

First I must finish this. It is for my friend/hairdresser who is pregnant and due on Aug 11th. They are keeping the name secret so I haven't stitched any of it yet. The name and birthdate will go under the tree. I am stitching this on 28 ct Tea linen using DMC floss. The design is from an old issue of SANQ magazine.

Last but not least is Bent Creek's Wave. I decided to take this one with me to the beach house over the weekend. It is stitched on 14 ct aida using overdyed floss that I chose. I really liked it and finished it over the weekend.

My friend Michelle invited me to her beach house on Long Island Sound in southern CT. We had wonderful weather on Saturday and spent the day on the beach. I could not believe how warm the ocean was there. I didn't need a wetsuit! Saturday night we went to Pennylane Pub in Old Saybrook. We tried some fruity martini's. I had Key Lime and she had Pineapple. Both were good. After that we went back to the house and played cards. Sunday morning we headed home. Both our husbands were out scuba diving on Sunday.

When we got back Sunday my husband and I went out to dinner and we decided to splurge and spend $20 on Keno while we were having our drinks. We won $210!!!! I was thrilled, it paid for the entire weekend.

I was busy all day filling orders for the new designs. My auto shops and distributors should have theirs already, they went out last week. Very shortly I will be releasing two more new designs, Give Thanks and Seasonal Sampler. Keep checking back. Until then, I hope you find time to stitch.........Nancy

Preview of Liberty & Justice

This is a little preview of the newest Glory Bee design I am working on right now. I promise the wiggle will be out of the fabric when I frame it LOL! It is called Liberty & Justice and it is being stitched on 28 ct Summer Khaki Cashel linen, my most fav linen at this time. I am using overdyed floss on this one. It is so much fun to stitch I can't wait to get it out to all of you!
But first up are the two on the right side of this Blog, Christmas Trio and Earth's Angels. After that I am releasing two retired class designs, Give Thanks and Seasonal Sampler. Then we will release U S Sampler, pictured below, with this sample. Whew! I'm exhausted LOL.
This past weekend was fun. I went with a friend and exhibited at Fitzwilliam NH Antique show. It is one of the favorite shows in the northeast. We did well. But it was a hot hot hot day! So Sunday Karen and her daughter came to my house and we lounged by the pool, swam, and stitched.
This morning befoe the gym I stitched a little more on L&J and I plan on going back to it now. Off to work............Nancy

I have FINALLY gotten the second of two new designs printed and *almost* ready to ship to my distributors and shops. You can see them on the right.

I have frantically been working on a new Blog catalog of all of my available designs. The link is on the right also. I have gotten up to GB-50. You may click on the Blog list and it'll take you directly to one. I love this, all the photo's and information about them in one place, well two really, along with my website.
All of these designs are available directly from me. Any shop may order them for you from one of my distributors. Norden Crafts has all of them and Hoffman Distributing has a select number.
I am trying to get the newest free design posted to my website soon also. There will also be two more new designs released within the next two weeks at the most. I am also finished stitching US Sampler and am working on Liberty & Justice. Those two will be released together. I am trying to get these finished in time for Stitching Jubilee which is mid-October in Lancaster PA.

New FREE design coming soon!

This is the model of my newest FREE design. It is called Seasonal Summer and ***hopefully*** be on my website by the end of this week. There are already companion designs called Spring & Winter there now. Autumn is in the works, before you ask LOL! The model was stitched on 25 ct Mushroom Lugana using Sampler Threads.

Well, it is another hot & humid day here. I think people are startingto really get tired of this weather. It looks like it'll be here all week. Oh well......

No news yet about the job I hope to get. I'm hoping to get a call for an interview later today. It's only 20 hours a week, which would be nice. I have also been sending out my resume for other jobs.

LHN~Simple Joys Finished

Please excuse the slightly wiggly photo! This "just" fit in my scanner and this scan is about the 6th try. I loved stitching this deisgn so much! When I saw this pattern I had to have it, and I had to start it immediately. I was drawn to the colors and the layout. Diane's designs are wonderful! I have no idea how I'm going to finish it yet. This would look nice sewn into a pillow I think. Or in a very rich brown frame. We'll see what happens with it. For those that want to know, I stitched this on 14 ct Fidlers Light using the recomended DMC floss. You have a choice of two colors for the greens. I used 370 and 372. I did not backstitch the windows and did not put my initials on this, just personal choice.

We finally got some rain yesterday. It has been in the 90's and humid for about 2 weeks. We really neeed the rain. I have been watering my lawn a bit but it doesn't seem to help much. Today is looking nice so far. Which is good. Today is my monthly stitch group. I love these Sunday's so much. We start about 9 AM and end about 3-4 PM. There is breakfast, lunch, and of course dessert! I am taking lemon squares. I love to bake but never made these before. I'll let you know how they turn out. I had to guard them all day yesterday. My husband was looking longingly at them. I will bring one home for him!

I always bring several projects to work on. Today I am taking Liberty & Justice, which is one of my designs that I am trying to get stitched quickly so I can release it soon. Maybe I will post a progress picture tomorrow. Wherever you are I hope you have time to stitch today...........Nancy

A name for the new patriotic design

I have named the new patriotic design: U.S. Sampler! U.S. is for Uncle Sam. I have to finish the left border and some backstitching and it will be complete. I will post a new picture as soon as it's done. I really like this one. I hope you will, too!
I searched and searched for a job yesterday and emailed 3 resumes. I actually heard back from one about scheduling an interview soon!!!!! This is the closest I've actually gotten to a job in a year. Wish me luck......
The weather in all of the northeast is more of the same, hot, hazy, and humid. I hope you can stay cool. Stitch something, it'll take your mind off of the heat!

Sneak peek of new patriotic design

Here is a sneak peek of my newest design! I have been inspired by the 4th of July to create a couple patriotic pieces. This one is, as of now, untitled. I also have one called "Liberty & Justice". The pictured design is stitched on 14 ct Dove Gray aida, you may use any gray or light blue fabric in 28 ct. if you wish. It is stitched using DMC cotton floss. The other words in the alphabet are America, Liberty and Pride, along with United which you can see in the picture.
Liberty & Justice is stitched on 28 ct Summer Khaki Cashel linen and uses overdyed cotton floss. I just started the bottom border on that one and will post a picture later when you can actually see some of the design.
In other news, we decided to stay home onthe 3rd and have our friends, Jeff & Kelly, over for dinner. We had a really nice time with them. Jeff & Al dive together almost every weekend but we never get to see Kelly. The 4th was spent by the pool stitching. I made excellent progress on my new design and should have it completed by the end of this week. We also went out to play miniture golf yesterday afternoon and I was absolutely crushed. I did not win one hole and Al ended up 7 under par! And it's not like he's a regular golfer! Maybe I will have to sneak away and practice this week LOL!

Wow, it's July already!

This picture was taken in July~~~~~of 1976! Yes, that is me and my husband right before we were married. It's hard to tell in that picture but he had a head full of beautiful curls. He still has his hair, but it's much shorter now. I will post a recent photo of us so you can see the difference. Of course he says I haven't changed........you be the judge. I say I have in 34 years. But it's nice that he doesn't think I have.

This is a picture of me taken by Sue Donnelly at the Mystic CT Stitcher's Hideaway in February of this year. I do see a difference :D
I will find a picture of Al and post it. I can't find a recent one, but, I know he has one somewhere on his phone or in this computer.

I leave you with this image of one of my early designs. I hope whatever you do on the 4th you have fun! The 3rd is Al's birthday and I am thinking we may go into Boston and walk from Harvard U. through to the North End. Maybe even take in a concert at the Hatch Shell. They do a dress rehearsal of the Boston Pops 4th concert on the evening of the 3rd. What better way to spend the day......Nancy

Shark teeth & Mermaids purse

This is a picture of some shark teeth, sand tigers I believe, and a mermaids purse (egg sack from either a skate or shark) that my husband brought me from his diving in North Carolina this past week. I would not want to get bitten by any of those teeth. He was diving on wrecks off the North Carolina coast at Olympus Dive Center out of Morehead City. They had a great time but the 2 hour boat rides out to the wrecks were daunting. I guess rough seas were the norm everyday. When I was in Rockport last week with my friend we saw some great shark tooth necklaces. I think I will have to make a couple from these teeth.
On the stitching front I have been keeping very busy with some Glory Bee designs. I am now stitching a new free design that co-ordinates with Spring and Winter which are on the website now. I also have a couple new releases just hours away. Hours covers a lot of time LOL! My husband is my printer and he is busy this week with two students taking an open water diving class. I'll get them out ASAP.
I am also trying to decide whether or not to submit designs to Celebration of Needlework for next year. If I am, I will have to get my act in gear pronto! They are due in November.
I got my preliminary numbers for my class sign ups in Lancsater this year at Stitching Jubilee. Act fast they are filling fast!
The weather here in north central Massachusetts is very hot and humid and my AC decided to act up. Luckily I have a friend who can fix it and it's now working again. It is very unusual for us to have 90 degree days in June! I am NOT complaining though......I woud rather the hot weather over the cold any day.

Yesterday in Rockport, MA

It really wasn't as gloomy as it looks in this picture. I loved the colorful boats and would love to own one of those houses.

Just imagine where you could go from here.......

Yesterday my friend, Michelle, and I spent the day in Rockport looking through all the shops and just enjoying a day free from responsibility. Both of our husbands dive, and they dive in Rockport a lot. We hardly ever come up here with them. I was diving up here at one point but we never came into the "touristy" area when we were done diving. Always straight home. There were many great gift shops and galleries. We had lunch at a nice place on the water. The day went way too fast, as it always does when you're having fun. We vowed to take a day like this every 4-6 weeks. Next on the list, Portsmouth NH!

On the stitching front~nothing. I haven't picked up a needle in a couple days. Today is not looking good for it either. I think I will have to get some work done since I took yesterday off. They are predicting temperatures in the 90's with tons of humidity. I think working inside is in order. Officework and cleaning, my two favorite activities. LOL!

My neighbor gave this to my husband (he is the resident gardner) to plant last year and it is blooming now.

We've had the Day Lily forever. They are all over our property. It's one of my favorite flowers.

This is Pickles, who as you remember, lost part of her tail a year ago. We call her stubby now!

Okay, everyone loves a swimming pool until it's in their yard and they have to clean it an maintain it. Honestly I loved having it years ago but am sick of it. Has anyone drained and filled theirs in? I need a general idea of the cost.

Clean office part 2

This is one of my favorite pieces. My friend Deb and I always go to the Christmas Tree Shop and one day we found these for $2.99!!! What a bargain.

This starts the many many many containers of charts. I thought these 3 part plastic bins were a great idea until I got to almost 100 designs!

Just another image of the great calendar along with in the very bottom right corner my Chloe Lincoln repro all stitched up. I loved woking on that.

I bought this at a local antique shop. It was made in the 1920's and is on paper using wool yarn. It has a very bright silver backing behind it. I was thinking of re-doing it but think I will probably just sell it on E***.

My NEW bookcase, on sale at Target for $13! It was a snap to put together. I put all my books in it and reference materials. I didn't realize how many exchange pieces I had until I tried to fit them in there also.

More pictures of my CLEAN office! Part 1

This is the back corner of the office. I have re-hung my calendar and also the memo board next to it, which I won as a door prize during Sue's retreat in VA. I put up my old green curtains which I like better. Back in the corner are two bins filled with models and there are finished projects on top. The fabric is next to that. I have threads in the boxes on top of the fabric. I just today put the bookcase together and put all my books and various things I received from friends and from exchanges.

My desk is clean!!!!! I put a wonderful wool runner on top of the desk. It goes great with the wall border.

This is the previous corner all cleaned up. The plate sitting on the filing cabinet is a bee and you can't see it, but it says Glory Bee! How cool is that?

Behind the curtain is an old closet that I put shelving in and haven't gotten new doors for it yet, so I put up the curtain to hide the mess. All those things hanging next to it are assorted name tags from all the retreats and shows I've attended, along with some more exchange pieces.

This is the entry into the room. with two of my favorite Blackbird Designs hanging there. There is also a huge beeskep on the floor in the corner.

For whatever reason I cannot get this first picture to stay upright, oh well, you get the idea! I found that metal perpetual calendar at Home Goods on sale for $2.00! How could I pass it up. The angel above it I just kind of stuck up there after my trip to Richmond VA. I bought it at the place where we had our afternoon tea. It was so much fun!

This picture is just showing the corner of my office. I have a filing cabinet there with junk all over the top. I wanted to show the wall border in this one. I love the border and did everything in the room around that item.

This is my messy desk with the computer that doesn't even work. I have to remove it and clean up in there! I have a new design printed and sitting on the edge of the desk ready to be assembled. Next to the desk in the plastic bins are my many fabric samples. Behind the pegboard is more storage for the floss lines I use. The view out the window is into my backyard which is really very nice and serene. I border the state forest and have many forest creatures come and greet me daily. Here is a very quick to stitch free design for your 4th of July stitching! I stitched mine on 14 ct Pebble Gray aida, but you may use any fabric you wish. The stripes of the flag are stitched as Double tied oblong cross but you may substitute regular cross stitches there also. Enjoy! Nancy

My ornament for the JCS Preview issue!

This is the ornament I designed for the Just Cross Stitch Ornament Preview issue. It is "A Partridge in a Pear Tree". The finishing was done by Vonna and, as always, she did a wonderul job and I want to thank her again! The finishing always makes or breaks the piece in my opinion. I know this issue is just starting to get to everyone's homes. I still have not seen it on my local newsstands. Oh well, someday I will get my copy......

I have a couple designs coming out shortly. I depend on my husband to do the computer work and he is quite busy scuba diving right now. I hope to have him get one ready this week so I can release them over the weekend. One is Earth's Angels, which is a tribute to mothers. The other is a row of three Christmas ornaments, which you may also stitch individually. It is called Christmas Trio.

I have been frantically collecting reproduction samplers once again. I went through my stash and determined I didn't have enough of them! Ebay has been a great source of OOP and hard to find designs. I am stitching several right now and haven't had much time lately to put any stitches into them. Pictures when I get further along on them.

It is a beautiful day here in the northeast and it promises to be a warm one, too. I love the warm summer days. I hope wherever you are you find time to do something you love today..........Nancy

Chloe Lincoln reproduction sampler

I finished this sampler last week but didn't have time to post it until now. It is a reproduction of Chloe Lincoln from Hingham Massachusetts done by Sheeish Designs. This is an OOP chart but I was lucky enough to borrow the chart for the month it took me to stitch it. Thanks Michelle!!! I stitched mine on 30 ct natural linen using the DMC called for in the chart. I really loved the colors of the design when I saw it posted to someone's Blog and couldn't wait to stitch it.
In other news, Celebration of Needlework was a success and I am already looking forward to next year. I must get me act together and start designing the pieces I will offer in 2011.
I leave in 11 days for the Sue Hillis Memorial Day Get Together in Richmond VA. I have never been to Richmond and am really looking forward to it. I'm also looking forward to meeting Sue and a lot of the gals from the 123 Stitch message board. Should be a fun weekend.
I have two new designs coming out soon. One is Earth's Angels and it is a tribute to moms everywhere. I finished Strawberry House the other night. I really enjoyed working on this design. I (of course) changed a few things! I stitched mine on 28 ct Amber linen. I did use the Crescent Colours floss~Ladybug~because I absolutely LOVE this shade of red. I substituted most of the other floss called for with whatever struck me first as I was matching up the photo to my floss. I did omit some of the small flowers and changed the color to white. I did a giveaway already for this chart. If you are a "follower" of my Blog you may win one of my random giveaways! Congratulations to Loretta, the winner of this chart.

Next is Victoria Sampler's Learning piece called Happy Birthday. I did use the materials in the kit but not the gold metallic. I used Rainbow Gallery Petite Treaure Braid because I love it so much. Never tangles, a joy to use, etc. I will probably make this into a tiny pillow and hang it in the kitchen on everyones birthday. I did change a bit of the design also.

Last is CHS Quaker Pincushion. I did not use the recommended fabric or floss. I used a piece of overdyed 16 ct aida from my stash and WDW's floss in Whiskey, Mocha, Chestnut, and Teal Frost. I had to rip soooo many stitches out of this piece several times! I'm sure glad it's finished. Not sure what I'll do with this one. I did change the charted name to my initials and the current year. I liked it better that way.

I have to tell you what a wonderful afternoon I had. I have a freind from the cross stitch boards that was visiting from NJ. She an I met at an antique shop close to my house and we gazed and drooled over these Ackworth Samplers. Scroll down to see the group of five. They are stunning in person. We were amazed at the size of the fabric used on the Quakers. It appears to be 25 ct or larger. And it looked like it had a rough texture. It was nice to see Tina and get to see these samplers with her! I had never known this antique shop had such an extensive collection. My friend went into it last weekend with her husband and asked me if I had ever been to see all the samplers. What a treasure! Too bad they are a bit out of my price range!

I've been getting my new charts together and my class kits for Celebrations ready. I am looking forward to teaching there for the first time this year. Come say hello if you're attending.

On a sad note~Betsy Stinner's huband, Ken, passed away Sunday. He had been ill with cancer. Many know Betsy from her designs, Earth Threads, and her many teaching engagements over the years. Our thoughts and prayers are with Betsy and her family at this sad time.

Almost fnished!

I wanted to finish this last night, I don't have much left to stitch, but I was knocked out from ??? I don't know what. I had a temporary crown put on my back molar and had to have novacaine for about the third time in my life. I don't think that made me sleepy. I just didn't feel well, but I'm fine today. I guess sleeping 10 hours will cure anything! I am hoping to finish this tonight. I love that this will fit in a stanard size frame.

My temporary crown went well. It does feel like a boulder in my mouth but I go back in two weeks for the permanant one so I can live with it. I had to have it numb because the tooth was fractured and really hurt even to touch it. All better now.

Just about a month left to get into my classes at Celebraton of Needlework in Nashua NH. My classes are even appropriate for beginners. And for intermediate/advanced stitchers who just want to have some fun stitching a great design with some specialty stitches you may already be familiar with. Check them out if you are going to Celebrations. I am still working on my kits. I was told my final order of fabric was shipped so hopefully I will get it this week.

My neighbor and I walk 5 days a week but not this week, so far. We are having heavy rain and some parts of the state have flooding. My cellar may get a little wet in the laundry room but not bad. We're lucky it isn't worse than that.

Progress on LHN Strawberry House

Pardon the wavy look to this, it was still in the Q-snap when I scanned it. I didn't stitch much Friday or Saturday. I picked it up for a couple hours last night. It is an absolute joy to stitch. I love the design and the fact it will fit in a standard size frame whe finished. Many designers will take that into consideration when designing and I thank them for it. Even some of my recent designs fall into that catagory.

I plan on going to the gym this morning and then stitching the rest of the afternoon. My husband is off scuba diving and I have the place to myself. He was gone Friday and Saturday so maybe we'll go out to dinner tonight. We go out about once a week if possible. We don't go to the chain restaurants often but prefer a local place that has wonderful food and atmosphere. Not to mention a pretty good martini also!

Tomorrow I have to get a temporary crown on my very last molar. I'm not looking forward to this one bit. The tooth is fractured. This is my 2nd crown. Soon I will be queen! I know, really bad joke......

Strawberry House started

Last night my husband and I settled in to watch our favorite shows we had recorded or gotten from Netflix. I decided I needed something to stitch and found LHN's Strawberry House all kitted up and ready to go. I did change a few things, naturally. It is stitched on 28 ct Amber linen, because that's what had in the color necessary. I did use Ladybug CC which is one of my favorite colors of all time but the rest are whatever I got from the floss stash. It is a really cute design and a fast stitch.

On to the TV portion of the post~We saw the final two episodes of Nurse Jackie Season one. I think that is a great show, great writing, great chrachters, etc. I look forward to season two. It has started but I will wait for Netflix or buy it on Amazon.

We started watching a show called Justified on FX. I like it. I also had saved an epsode of "The Good Wife", predictable but fairly good. It ws a rerun, which was the start of the downward spiral of TV last night. We then popped in the disk from Netflix of Mad Men Season 3. As soon as episode 1 started I knew we had already seen it. Both of us had forgotten we bought Season 3 from Amazon and streamed it in last fall and already watched it. Wow! How could we have forgotten that! It was on to Iron Chef for the rest of the night's TV. Bad thing is, it makes you hungry. We still have 2 episodes of Life to watch and 30 Rock is on tonight. I see more stitching in my future.

"Liberty Ewe"

This is Liberty Ewe by Sharon Crescent (Crescent Colours). Sorry Sharon I used whatever fibers I had in my stash. I was in the mood for an easy stitch and used 14 ct beige aida. It is an adorable design and I'm happy with it. Who knows how long it will take me to finish it into a mini-pillow, cube or pincushion??? I have a drawer in my craft room that has at least 50+ stitched items waiting to be finished. Someday.......

I want to thank eveyone for taking the time to comment on my Blog. It really means a lot to me to read your thoughts on my designs and stitching.

I stitch while I watch TV at night. We are finishing up season 1 of Nurse Jackie. I love that show. Mad Men Season 3 will be here from Netflix today. That is another one of our favorite shows.

I have a couple new ideas for designs in the works. One is a kinda dog piece and the other for stitchers. I also have one stitched, chart finsihed, and ready to release, about mother's. I hope to have that out soon so you can stitch it for Mother's Day.

I also have a new patriotic class piece designd and have to start stitching it. Never a dull moment, but how lucky am I to stitch for WORK!

I was very fortunate to spend almost all last weekend stitching! I finished Lizzie*Kate's Spring. I did not put the pink bottons on this. I like it as is and will most likely finish it (yeah right!) as a cube. I stitched it on 28 ct Summer Khaki Cashel linen and used the DMC conversion.

Last week I finished this Sheepish Design piece that I bought when a couple friends and I went to Thistle Needleworks in CT in January. I loved the colors, although pastels aren't the colors I usually stitch with. I found a very old piece of 28 ct Quaker cloth in my stash and used it because they did it on that color in the model photo. I used he DMC colors called for. I fell in love with Quaker cloth after using it for this piece and went back into my stash and found a gorgeous piece in a "sand" color. I plan on stitching Goode Huswife's Ira Ray Crow on it.

On Saturday, while my husband and his friends were off diving, my friend Patti came over and we sat out on the porch and stitched for about 5 hours. What a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. I worked on Lizzie*Kate's Chicks Rule all day and finished it the next day. Our stitch group meets one Sunday a month and last Sunday was the day. I finished Chicks Rule and worked on an old UFO, La D Da's Glory Angel. I decided the stitch group Sunday's are now going to be UFO Sunday's until further notice. I have sooooo many UFO's that need finished and this will encourage me to get them done.

I have met my many deadlines for Glory Bee. My two Christmas ornaments are in the hands of Just Cross Stitch magazine. A Partridge in a Pear Tree will be in their preview issue and Christmas 2010 will be in the special ornament issue. I am looking forward to teaching at Celebrations this year and am finishing up my kits. I also had to submit my teaching pieces for Stitching Jubilee coming up in October. I will be teaching four classes in Lancaster Oct 14-16th.

New designs released March 2nd!

They are finally ready! GB-96 BYOB Easter is a companion piece to BYOB, a Halloween design. This one says "Bring your own bunny". How cute is that! It is stitched on 30 ct cream linen usig DMC floss in beautiful spring colors. I framed it in a purple (hard to see here) frame by East Side Mouldings.

Th second one is GB-95 Dream Big. This cute little snowman is having a hard time deciding which hat to wear. He has several to choose from. This was modeled on 28 ct Summer Khaki Cashel linen. It uses Gentle Art Sampler Threads and the pom-poms on the hats are rhodes stitches. I have included a stitch diagram for that. I took an 8" x 8" unpainted frame and painted it white then sponged on a light and medium blue over the white. Also any standard 8" x 8" frame ill fit this perfectly.

I am mailing the charts out to my distributors and auto shops this week, so look for them in your favorite shop soon!

I believe the registration for Celebration of Needlework opens very soon, maybe even March 1st. I am teaching 4 classes there this year. I also hope to teach at other shops around the country as well as Stitching Jubilee in Lancaster, PA October 14th through the 16th. I will have two new class pieces in Lancaster and two from Celebrations.
There will be two new designs going out next week to my auto shops and distributors. Eatser BYOB (Bring your own bunny) and Dream Big, a snowman with his choice of hats! Look for these in your local shop very soon.
I have mailed off my two ornaments to Just Cross Stitch magazine. One will be in the Christmas Ornament preview issue and one in the special ornament issue. I had them professionally finished by Vonna and she did such a fabulous job, thanks again Vonna! I can't wait until you can see them!!!!
At the end of the week me and a few friends are heading down to Mystic CT to attend the Stitcher's Hideaway Alumni retreat. 2 & 1/2 days of nothing but stitching time! Talk about heaven on earth. And if you've ever been to one of Sue's retreats you know you never go hungry either. I can't wait, we eave Thursday. I am entrusting my dog & cat to my husband for those days. They should do okay together.

Busy, busy, busy........

Where do I begin? Here is a good place to start. I finished Little House Needlework's Traveling Stitcher. The "Needles" piece to this project is in a post below. I bought fabric and will stitch this up later this week. I am not going to make it exactly as the model shows. My fabric is the same though. I found the fabric in a quilt shop about a year ago.

I also have to sew up a pin cushion for an exchange. I finished the stitching last night and couldn't decide what to do with it. I made a pin cushion for myself a few weeks ago and thought I would do the same with this. I will show a photo after it's received.

The monthly stitch group I belong to met at my house last Sunday. We always have such a great time and the day flies by. Some of us are going to go to Thistle Needleworks in CT this Saturday. Someone said they are having a 20% off sale. I'm sure I'll find something!

I am also stitching a class piece. It is pictured in a post below. I love the colors. I wanted to get a corner of it done so I could see how the colors look together. Hopefully there will be room for it at Celebrations this year. It was a late entry from me and if there is room in the schedule they will include it. Otherwise it will debut at Stitching Jubilee in October. I am so excited to be teaching at Celebration of Needlework for the first time and for the third year in a row at Stitching Jubilee. It truely is my favorite part of this business. I love meeting stitchers and doing classes. I hope to see some of you there!

Another finish!

I'm inspired to stitch small designs right now. I finished Bent Creek's Valentine Snapper (still need to add the snap at the key tag). I worked on this off and on this past Sunday. It was another snowy day here. My husband and I went out to the gym in the morning and then we watched movies all afternoon.

My sewing class was canceled for this week. The teacher had surgery and is still in the hospital. She should come home later this week but she's 88 years old so she'll need time to recover. I will probably sit and sew on my own tomorrow. I want to make this and the L*K Dog design into little gifts.

Not much else is happening. It's time to get my paperwork together for year end for both businesses. Time to get a jump on my "spring cleaning" and get it done now. Then there is all the stitching I have planned for the year! Wherever you are, I hope you find time to stitch today.......Nancy

First finish of 2010

Yesterday I decided to do a smaller project than the ones I've been stitching and did this Lizzie Kate design. It is fast and cute! I used different, but similar,
fibers. Mine are all WDW: Molasses, Turkish Red, Moss, Sky, Deep Sea, Charcoal, and Pecan. I used a piece of 14 ct aida from my stash, I think it is Beige. It works up to be 4" x 4" and I will probably make it into an ornament/small pillow to hang somewhere here. I still have to put the dog bone charm on it.
We have had snow here for days but it isn't amounting to anything. It is pretty cold out, too. Well after all it is January.
Yesterday we went to see Avatar 3-D. It ws GREAT! I see some Academy Awards coming his way for this one. It was almost 3 hours long but you never felt that time was dragging. The animation was wonderful and I loved the 3-D. The theater was showing it in 2-D also but I wonder why???
I think today I will kit up my newest class design and get started on it. I am torn between neutral or white fabric for it and also can't decide on the fibers, silk, DMC or overdyed??? What's a gal to do???

He's finshed!

He's a little askew but he's finished. I labored over the last part of the design and decided on different snowflakes. I also added the tree and house from a previos design idea. I hope you like him as much as I do. I have a frame I painted white for him but I may re-paint it blue and add white snowflakes???? You'll soon know. I hope to have him out the door by mid-January.
Speaking of snow.....they are saying we will be having snow by the first of January. Personally, I could do without it. But it will be better than the sub-zero temperatures of yesterday. It was so wndy you could barely stand up. When we left for the gym at 5AM this morning it was a frigid 3 degrees. It's wamred up some today already.

LHN Traveling Stitcher

I love this design! I finished the "Needles" and am working on the larger section now. I have it about 1/3 to 1/2 finished. It is so much fun to stitch, but then, all of Diane's designs are fun stitches. I am working on 25 ct Mushroom Lugana and the fibers are Crescent Colors and were included. I will sew it into a sewing pocket when I'm finished. I love my sewing classes. I have gotten a ton of finish work done since taking sewing. We are skipping this Wednesday so maybe I will sit and sew that afternon if I have eveything else finshed.

I went back to my snowman design and finally finished designing him. It will only take a few hours or less to finsih the stitching and then he'll be off to my husband for charting and printing.

They are talking snow or rain here for New Years Eve and day. We are spending New Years Eve with friends and Al was going to go diving, yes diving in the north Atlantic, on New Years Day. Last year they went and had zero air temperature and 39 degree water!!!! No thank you! I may go just to watch the crazy people.

Stitcher's Hideaway will be here before you know it! Sue has an alumni retreat in February in Mystic Ct and it is my favorite one. No teacher or project just stitching, eating, and shopping for 2 days. I plan on stitching my new teaching pieces there or even an older UFO or two.

I have finished the "Needles" portion of Little House Needleworks Traveling Stitcher. This chart came with the Crescent Colors needed. I love the red~Ladybug~it has some wonderful varigation. I started on the other part of the chart last night but didn't get much done. I will post that picture in a day or two when you can see some progress. There was also a pre-sewn piece to go with this, you attach the stitched pieces to it. I was fortunate enough to find the fabric they used and will make my own sewing case. It's a fun stitch.

I was going to start something new for New Years Day but have started this so I will continue working on it. I am hosting my stitching group at my house on January 10th, pray for no snow, and will hopefully have this almost done after that. Last winter we got snowed-out for almost 4 months in a row!

Christmas was a quiet day here. Just how we like it. We are planning on seeing friends for New Years Eve. In the past we hosted a huge party on New Years Eve but haven't in a few years. I like it better this way.

Everest:Beyond the Limit is airing three new episodes tonight. It is on the Discovery network. I love that show. I don't know how they do it. I really don't like cold weather and they are in such brutal conditions! Hopefully I can stay awake for all three. I don't think I can stitch and watch this at the same time.

As you can see, I have always been a good little shopper. Summer or winter I am ready to go! I was born in the B&W photo age and this Wednesday is my birthday. For once I am not liking my birthday, probably has to do with the number, but honestly I still feel 20. I am blessed with good health and have a wonderful life. So bah humbug to the number and on to another great year!

I hope you are ready for Christmas. I am, but then I really don't have much to do. My husband and I will spend a quiet day at home. I'm sure I'll get to stitch quite a bit on Christms day. Pancake breakfast on Chrstmas morning has been a recent tradition. that I look forward to.

I did get some stitching done over the weekend. We had a forcast of 4-7" of snow and only got a dusting. Not even enough to shovel. Oh well, I stitched more on my Blackbird Design piece and an old WIP from LHN Winter Wonderland.

I still have to get back to my "Dream Big" design and finish him up before the New Year. I want to add some snowflakes or swirls of snow at the bottom and sides of him. Maybe later today I can work on him.

More stitching

I scanned these yesterday and then couldn't find them in my computer. Sometimes I forget to actually look and see where they are being saved and lose them! I did a search and still didn't find them. Oh well, here they are.

Pins and Needles is a Blackbird Designs Small Token chart. There was a bit more stitchng, but I left it off. They had some yellow/gold colored stitching in the flowers and squares but I liked the open airy look this gave to it. I did not use the colors they recommended only because I didn't have them. I just pulled all of these Crescent Colors out of my stash. It's a wonderful design and a very quick stitch.

Then we have my own design, Dream Big. This is the second time I've stitched him! I worked on him at the Stitcher's Hideaway retreat last February and got him 99% finished. Some of the gals there loved him but I just didn't like the final design and only recently had time to get back to him and do a re-design. I changed the fabric but the fibers are the same. He still isn't done. I have to add some snow swirls to the bottom and bottom corners. I may add a few other tiny motifs as well. I plan on releasing him with my Easter design BYOB (Bring your own bunny) Easter. This one is a kind of companion to my BYOB (Bring your own broom) Halloween design.

I am still going to my sewing classes once a week and finished the Mary Garry piece from the previous post into a pin cushion. Blackbird Design recommends filling the pin cushions with crushed walnut shells (available at pet shops as reptile bedding). It works somewhat like emery, sharpening your needles and pins as you use it.

I heard the weathermen predict either a dusting of snow for Sunday or a nor'ester with 12"plus. It all depends on how far out to sea the storm tracks. I'm hoping for a dusting of snow. We already have snow on the ground and fridgid temps so I think it will stay for Christmas.

I have been ready for Christmas for weeks, and hope you are also. Today I plan on starting to stitch my newest class piece, Birds of a Feather, seen on an earlier post also. I love days that I can start a fire in the woodstove and sit there and stitch the majority of the day away. I hope your day is fun in some way too! Until next time, Happy stitching..........Nancy

I think I stitch as many free designs as I do purchased designs. I ALWAYS print them off because you never know
when you will need something quick to stitch! Little House Needleworks and Plum Pudding are both favorite designers of mine and I have plenty of their designs in my stash to stitch. The older Mary Garry piece is one I kept wanting to stitch and never got to. I finally did and I will make this into a pin cushion along with the Blackbird design I am working on. I don'thave a picture of that yet and I totally forget the name. It's a beautiful pin cushion and I will be finished with it today so I will post it tomorrow. I also finished Plum Street Samplers Fishes and Bait. With my husband being such an avid scuba diver this one is perfect for him. Love the fishes and mer-man and mermaid on it. It won't fit in the scanner so I will photograph it tomrrow and post it.
The other picture is of a teaching piece that will be first offered at Stitching Jubilee in October of this year. It is the third annual Stitching Jubilee and will once again be held in Lancaster PA. Last year I stayed with releatives in Delaware and had about and hour + commute each day. This coming year I will be stayign at the hotel so I can get out and see Lancaster. I grew up in PA and went to Lancaster once as a teenager but hadn't been back since. I didn't have time to see any of the area last October. For the piece, it is not entirely set in stone yet. The colors may change etc. I will start stitchig it soon. There are many specialty stitches but they are simple to do and you may personalize it with yours and a friends initials. The plan right now is to stitch this on antique white or summer khaki cashel linen using overdyed floss. Now if you can't get to Lancaster feel free to have your guild or shop comtact me for details on how they may have this taught in their shop.

Busy time of year

Hi all~

This has been a busy winter for me and Glory Bee! I have been accepted at Celebration of Needlework and will be teaching three projects there in the spring. Coming up in October of 2010 is the third annual Stitching Jubilee and I will have 4 (and hopefully more) new projects for that event. Of course I have to design, stitch, finish and publish all of these. When I say *I* what I mean is I do some of that work and my husband/webmaster/publisher does the rest. He is a HUGE part of my company and it could not go on without him. Luckily it's winter and his scuba diving activities have slowed somewhat. Although they still dive all winter! Remember we are in New England and that water is COLD!

We got some more snow yesterday. I have to say the roads were quite a mess early in the morning. It started to snow at 5AM and I thought I would get out to the gym before the heavy stuff came down. By the time I left to come home at 7AM the roads had gotten very slick. I was glad to be home the rest of the day. It will probably be a white Christmas here.

I am all ready for Christmas. I have to admit the only thing I send any longer are Christmas cards. No more gifts and crazy shopping. I am so relieved. It makes it much easier to enjoy the holiday that way. My birthday is close to Christmas so that makes the week enjoyable as well.

We have a party to go to for New Years Eve. We used to always host the party and I got so tired of doing it, it is be a pleasure going somewhere else for a change. New Years Day a bunch of us are getting together for a dive and lunch. I will NOT be diving that day. Even if the temps are nice the water's too cold. I think I can magane lunch!

Two New Designs!

GB-93 Quaker Gameboard is a standard Parchesi board that has four different Quaker motifs in each corner. The center square, Home Sweet Home, is stitched over one thread using one strand of floss. This was stitched on 28 ct Lambswool linen using Threadworx Blue Navy. You will need 25 yds if stitching on 28 or 14 ct using two strands as the model does. This floss is sold in 20 yard and 5 yards lengths. The finished design is 10" x 10" on 28/14 ct fabric. A special thanks to my friend Robeta for her speedy stitching of the model! $9.00

GB-94 Cupid is a delightful design stitched on 16 ct Antique White aida. For linen stitchers it converts to 32 ct ivory or antique white linen. I used regular DMC and #12 Perle Coton DMC in Black and Cupid is stitched using Bleeding Heart overdyed floss by Threadworx. The heart is stitched using Petite Treasure braid in gold, but silver would look nice also. This was framed in an East Side Mouldings Black frame. $7.00

Both of these designs are being shipped to my disributors and automatic shops by Monday! Get your orders in now for some holiday de-stressing.

A new design for October release

Hi all~

I am pleased to show you the latest Glory Bee design~Quaker Gamebard. My friend Roberta stitched this for me and she did a fantastic job. The model was stitched on 28 ct Lambswool linen and

uses Blue Navy Threadworx overdyed cotton floss. I love the varigation in this one! Design size is 141w by 141h and works out to be 10" x 10". I used an Eastside Mouldings frame. I hope to release this in time for the Stitching Jubilee in October in Lancaster PA. At that time I will also release St Valentine which can be seen on this blog under Sept 1st post. Glory Bee Halloween Designs

These are all Glory Bee Halloween designs. They are all still in print and available at fine needlework shops.

Which Witch?: Are you a good witch? This was stitched on 28 ct fabric using Sampler Threads.

Trick or Treat: This is a retired class piece. It has some specialty stitches. It is fun and quick to stitch.

Pumpkin Man: This design is one of four seasonal samplers. It is stitched with WDW floss on 28 ct fabric and uses a JAB Co maple leaf button.

Low Flying Brooms: This is one that I had a special frame made for. The frame is by The Sweetheart Co. The frame is perfect for this. It too was stitched with overdyed floss on 28ct fabric. Any neutral color will work. Hauntsville: This is one of my all time favorites! I love the big pumpkin overlooking the city of Hauntsville! Happy Halloween: I just put this one on my mantle. I was decorating for Halloween and remembered this older design of mine. I love the fabric, very chocolate brown. Halloween Trio: These three designs may be stitched individually and made into ornaments. This was modeled on 28 ct fabric and again uses overdyed floss. Halloween Sampler: This is my newest Halloween design. This was stitched on 14 ct fabric and uses overdyed floss also. Bats, black cats, and ghosts, oh my!

Hagatha's Hats: If Salem had a hat company it would cetainly be as old as this one eatablished in 1692. Hagatha has three hats to choose from, all very nice! Flying Monkeys is stitched on Natural Light linen, which is no longer available, but you may use any neutral fabric. It uses Gentle Art Sampler Threads and a JAB Co Bat btton. Here we have BYOB (Bring your own broom!)

How cute is that. Another one stitched with Gentle Art Sampler Threads but on 30 ct linen this time.

Okay, I finished Ida Mae this afternoon and I think she is lovely! What a wonderful design. I thoroughly enjoyed stitching this one. I changed a few things to suit me, fibers, and the colors in the flowers.

Ida Mae Crow by The Good Huswife

Is she just the cutest thing you ever saw!!!! I fell in love with this design and bought it the minute it was available. I do not know why it took me so long to start stitching it. I did substitute some Gentle Art Sampler Threads for DMC but the colors are almost a perfect match. I just have to finish the flowers and the dots on her dress. I am planning on making this into either a pillow or a totebag.

The weather looks gorgeous here this holiday wekeend. My husband was going to go deep sea fishing today but got called into work instead. Oh well....Tomorrow he and his crew are doing a 300 foot dive to try and locate a new wreck as of yet undiscovered. It could be something or it could be a pile of rocks. They won't know until they get down there. So please keep the crew in your thoughts as this is a very dangerous depth to dive to.

I plan on stitching most of the day on Satruday and some on Sunday. We have a party to go to on Sunday afternoon. I hope you all enjoy the holiday weekend and find time to stitch..........Nancy

This is my currect project. This is My Lady's Quaker and there is a SAL Blog here. My choice of fabric was 27 ct Crean Northrn Cross linen using DMC 924 & 926. The floss looks darker than it actually is. The other thing I am trying to finish up is Ida Mae Crow by The Goode Huswife.

I haven't scanned it yet, maybe later. I have to run out right now. More later.....Nancy

Preview of new design and class piece

Here is a little preview for you!
St Valentine is stitched using Threadworx Bleeding Heart, regular DMC #310, and #310 in #12 perle coton for the blackwork border. The heart is stitched using Rainbow Gallery Gold. I love how this came out. I am hoping to release this along with Quaker Gameboard, which is being framed now, by mid-October at the Stitching Jubilee

The other piece is called Patriotic Trio and it is stitched using 28 ct Cashel linen in Summer Khaki with overdyed floss. There are also gold beads in the far right panel disguised as bees. This is a class piece that I hope to teach at Celebrations in 2010. Other events will follow I'm sure!

I am 99% certain I will be teaching Give Thanks and Christmas Trio in Ohio in November. I will post more when we finalize the plans. I am excited about going back to teach for Shelly again. Keep the first weekend in November open!

I want to thank everyone for their wonderful comments on my *SCUBA* picutre! It really was a ton of fun.

I have been putting kits together for my upcoming classes. I have been doing it all afternoon and needed a break. Now I must get back to it. See it's not all stitching and fun and games. Sometimes I have to WORK!

Just for fun I uploaded a picture we took while scuba diving in Bonaire in December 2006. Click for a large picture. My husband thought it would make a great photo for my website and it was on the home page for a long time. I know some people haven't seen it so I wanted to share it again. I am actually "stitching" on plastic canvas with yarn. It is supposed to be a fish! This photo was taken at the dive site Karpata. This dive site becomes quite deep, over 150 feet, although this photo was take in about 15 feet of water at the end of our dive. I hope you enjoy it! Nancy

These are the two new ones. Golf is stitched on 25 ct Lugana and uses Sampler Threads. Two Blackbirds is stitched on 30 ct linen and uses DMC floss. I hope you like them. Time flies when we're having fun!

This has been a very busy month. I have accomplished a ton of stitching, designing, and business related work this past month. There are two new designs ready to go to my auto shops. Two Blackbirds and Golf will be showing up in your local shops very soon. I will post pictures soon.
I applied to Celebration of Needlework for the 2010 Sprng event. I have always been interested in teaching there. I am submitting four class pieces to them and hopefully they will be accepted.
I am starting to gather kit supplies for my four classes in Lancaster PA at Stitching Jubilee in October this year. And the designs just keep on coming! I have three already stitched and a fourth is being stitched now. Two are framed and another one is being framed now. I have made some changes to this blog so you may follow along with the progress on my designs from the actual stitching to the release.
I finished some personal stitching as well. I finally finsihed Quaker #1. I was waiting on thread. I don't know how I will finish it yet. I also finished Spot the Horse by Carriage House Samplings. I never thought I would finish that one! It seemed to take forever. I really like it and will probably make it into a pillow for my office chair. Now I want to stitch Ida Mae Crow by Goode Huswife. We'll see.....

I received this lovely Sweetbag from Nancy K on the Legacy Board. It is a Mosey n Me design and the stitching and sewing of the bag is wonderul. She did a fantastic job on both. She really spoiled me with all the goodies she sent with it. There is a cute Summer design by M Designs, she included the fabric and embellishments with it. A bag of DMC floss, amd square buttons which are too cute! Some patriotic ribbon and fat quarters. The little Altoid tin at the bottom will make a great needlecase when it's empty. Thanks so much Nancy!

In other news, I got back this weekend from PA and a vist with my parents. They are both 84 now and doing well, which I am forever grateful for. They still keep up with all the housework and yardwork. My sister and her family came over too and it was nice to see all of them again. It's way too long in between visits! Hopefully I will be able to stop by again in October on my way home from Lancaster after the Stitching Jubilee.

I have been stitching a lot! I stitched a Mother's Day design, a golf design, and a Valentine's Day design. My model stitchers finished a sampler and an Easter design. I think the next two to be released will be the sampler and the golf design. Another model stitcher still has the Quaker Gameboard and is working on it. I can't wait to see that one. It is modeled on Lambswool linen with a beautiful Navy Blue overdyed floss.

I have been working on new class pieces to submit to Celebrations for next spring. I am going to try and have at least 3-4 design ready. I hope to be able to teach there next year. It is only 30 minues from home so it would be wonderful!

I have also been working on Carriage House Sampling's Spot the Horse. I love that design and am stitching it on a piece of tobacco colored fabric with the DMC conversions which I have to say don't quite look like the pictured colors, but I love it anyway. I di get sick of DMC 310 so I ut it aside for a bit. Ithink I will make it into a pillow when I'm finished with it. I also want to stitch Goode Huswife's Ida Mae Crow on the same fabric and also make a pillow. I think they will look good together.

We finally have good weather here in New England! We had so much rain in May & June I thought we were going to need an Ark! It is still cool and comfortable too. I have to get to the gym. I received my Legacy Board Quaker Quarterly Exchange from Darla yesterday. Our theme was black this time and she did a wonderful job stitching this on 32 ct Lugana using Needle Necessities ovedyed floss, Ashes to Ashes. What a great color! Darla made this into a pinkeep and the toile fabric used as the backing compliments it perfectly. Notice the pins she used, the larger, very round ones are those bright yellow flower head pins. She dipped them in black model paint. Great job on all counts Darla. Thank you so much! Nancy

Two new designs!

These are the two new ones! The first is GB-89 Home. This designs has a very colonial-looking home and couple. And home is the key to their hearts as signified by the two hearts and a key over them. This design is modeled on 14 ct oatmeal aida using DMC floss. Feel free to change the fabric to any neutral color of your choosing if you prefer a different count. Conversion to Anchor floss is included on the chart.

Next is GB-90 (can I really have 90!!! designs already) Halloween Sampler. This design was stitched on 14 ct Khaki aida. I used Gentle Art Sampler Threads on this design. The motifs are happy halloween ones, not scary ones. And the ghost, almost as friendly as Casper!

I am sending both of these to my auto-shops and distributors this week. Look for these in your local shops soon. If you need help finding a needlework shop you may email me, or go to my website for a listing of shops under Retail Sources.

This is Bent Creek's Rise & Shine. It was originally a kit and a friend sent me her chart. I finally finished this. I started it over a year ago. I took it to Stitcher's Hideaway Alumni Retreat in February and got most of it done. Yesterday I worked on it at Celebrations in Nashua NH. The picture is clickable for a better view. I did change almost all the colors to what I had on hand, and that went with my wallpaper in the dining area. Whch is where it will go.

In other news~I was in Delaware last week and stopped by Where Victoria's Angels Stitch in Clifton NJ on my wy home. Thanks to all the stitchers that stopped to say hello. I love that shop! Tawny has the most well-stocked shop I have ever been in, and I've seen a lot of shops.

This week is Celebrations in Nashua. I dropped my models off at Chris's Collection and then went back up yesterday for shopping and stitching. I ran into practically every stitcher I know. It is a very popular event. They have some great classes, but to me it's the mechandise mall that makes it worth the trip. That and sitting in the lobby stitching with friends.

I am sitting here waiting for the Direct TV repairman to come fix my dish. I have been without TV for 3 days now. I have to say, it isn't that bad. But I have missed a couple of the new shows that we've been taping. I'll find them somewhere, maybe even online. Isn't technology wonderful!

I have a couple things to sew. I am going to make the Bent Creek I just finished into a pillow for my dining area. I bought a pattern for a wool needleroll yesterday but I am using fabric instead. I also have a little purse pattern I want to try. Pictues when they're finished.

Another finish!

This is Hornbook Angel by The Primitive Needle. I stitched mine on 14 ct beige aida using Cherry Bark by Gentle Art. It took two skeins and I only did part of the stars in the upper corners. The model used two colors. I eliminated one color. I love how it came out and it will look good as a center panel on a totebag, don't you think? I have so many framed pieces, and now that I am no longer afraid of my sewing machine, I am finding many other ways to finish my stitching.

The Needlework Show is still going on. It ends Monday at midnight. Links are in my last two posts. I saw a lot of designs that were "must haves". Have you checked it out yet?

We planted some new grass seed in our front yard so I am in charge of keeping it wet so it doesn't dry out. I think I have the easy part. My husband was raking, planting, and shoveling all day yesterday.

Next week I go to Delaware to visit relatives and on my way home I will be at Where Victoria's Angels Stitch in Clifton NJ. Tawny has my trunk show and I am going to pick it up and will be there for a couple hours for a "meet & greet" while we pack everything up. If you are in the neighboorhood please stop in and say hello!

My trunk show will be at Celebrations coming up April 30th through May 2nd. Chris's Collection takes my models so be sure to stop by her booth and check them out along with all the other great charts and supplies she'll have. I have designed an exclusive "freebie" that she will be handing out.

This picture will give you some idea of how accurate Threadworx has matched the old Needle Necessities colors. I started this piece and had one 20 yd skein of NN. I eventually ran out because I under-estimated the amount of floss I needed. I decided to try Threadworx and see what they came up with for a match. I cannot tell by looking at this picture (it's clickable to see a larger view) where one brand began and ended, can you? I highly recommend their color conversions. I also had a class piece I needed more floss for when I kitted it and it was a perfect match also.
In other news, be sure to check out the Needlework Show that runs until Monday at midnight. There are some great designs to be seen there. There is also a link to shops that can order these from the designers for you.

Class pieces finshed!

Here they are! I am very pleased with how they turned out. All the pictures are "clickable". I am awaiting frames for the first three and as you can see the Stitcher's Rule has been finished. I contacted Vonna, from The Twisted Stitcher, last week and she got these finished in record time and did a WONDERFUL job. The design doesn't look that great until you see them finished. All four of these will be classes at Stitching Jubilee being held in Lancaster PA in October. I believe they start sign ups the first week in June so keep checking their website. My classes are limited to 24 students and Stitcher's Rule looks like it will fill the first day, judging on the emails I've received asking about it. That's great!
The first design is "Seasonal Sampler", next is "Christmas Trio" and then "Give Thanks" followed by "Stitcher's Rule". These are all intermediate pieces and even if you've never stitched on linen or evenweave you could do these. The directions are clear and we will have plenty of time to go over them thoroughly in class. So sign up! Not to mention the merchndise mall there is really good too. Last year my models were at Stitch n Stuff's booth. I am already scheduled to show my models there again this year. You can check out all the shops that will be there. They are listed on the Stitching Jubilee's website. Last year Vicki Clayton was there with her wonderful silks and fabrics.
I have finally set up my Needlework Show pages and am ready to ship them off to be set up by Cindy. I hope you can make time to check out all the wonderful designs showcased there. She has an online show in April and again in October. I am signed up for both this year.
Well, with me so busy with Glory Bee work it left all the yardwork to my husband. We had an awful ice storm in December and the yard is finally cleaned up. There was so much debris. Fallen trees, branches, broken fences, etc. And we had two trees removed from the fromt yard.
As if I didn't have enough to stitch, I signed up for the Sweetbag exchange on the Legacy board. I love stitching for someone else in an exchange because I know they will appreciate the work that went into the stitching and finishing. Now that I am taking sewing classes I am more confident in my finishing abilities also. The theme is patriotic so I plan on choosing the project later today.

Busy Week

Hi all~

First, thanks for all the nice comments on my last post, and for waiting for me to post again! This has been a busy week. I had to get another ornament stitched, finished, and mailed. For those of you keeping count, that brings the total to three. These will all be published in Just Cross Stitch magazines; Halloween issue, Ornament Preview Issue and the special Ornament Issue. I don't know the exact release dates but will let you know the moment I see them out. At that time I will post the pictures. This has been so much fun to do. I am certainly honored to be invited to do these for the magazine.

Pictured above are a few of the many things I worked on last month at the Stitchers Hideaway Alumni Retreat. First is LHN's Home of a Needleworker, Too. I have to finish the roof and windows in the house and it will be done. Next is a snowman design for Glory Bee which isn't quite finished. I am adding teeny tiny jingle bells to the hat in the top left and maybe something to the top hat. Iam stenciling a frame for this. It will be white with snowflakes, I think. Lastly, Birds of a Feather's No Bees, No Honey. I love this one. I started it soooooo long ago. It was a UFO calling my name.

The stitching above are previews of the class pieces for Stitchers Jubilee being held in Lancaster PA in October this year. The first one is "Seasonal Sampler". There are different specialty stitches in all four borders and some within the different seasonal squares. Next is a fob and the back of it will have your inital stitched. That goes with the piece below it called "Stitcher's Rule". There is a 6" ruler that goes wth this. The top picture is the ruler case and below it is the needlecase, unfinised right now. The left side is the back of it, and the right side will be the front. All of these pieces are suitable for anyone comfortable with working on evenweave or linen. I'm also designing a 3 piece Christmas Ornament set with some specialty stitches (it's almost finished) as well as a sampler called "Give Thanks". I still have to stitch that one!

So as you can see I have been very busy and love working on all these Glory Bee projects! I also have two new designs almost ready to publish. They will be released in conjunction with the Online Needlework Show coming up in April. They will be sent to my automatic customers first and then offered at the show for all of you.

Anyone out there?

Thanks for waiting for me to post again! It has been a very busy month. It started with designing two ornaments for a magazine that had to be finished and mailed by the end of the month. I still have one more to go but have two weeks before it's due.
I also had to work on designing and stitching my class pieces for Stitching Jubilee. I have three finished and a couple more in the works. Hopefully I will get them done by the deadline because it is really a great event and I wouldn't want to miss it. This year it is moving to Lancaster PA which is a great location. I can't wait to see the shopping and the quilts there. No picutres of the class pieces yet. Soon I promise.
I attended the Stitchers Hideaway Alumni Retreat in Mystic CT. It was so much fun. This retreat had no teacher~no schedule and all fun! You got to choose what to work on and when to work on it. I got so much stitching done. I don't think I have ever had that much uninterrupted time to sttich~ever! I can't wait for next years!
I am also getting my pages set up for the online Needlework Show. This is going on in April and again in October. This is such an excellent way for stitchers to get a taste of designers they may never have head of before. Please check it out.
I also have some Glory Bee Trunk Shows scheduled. The first one is in New Jersey at Where Victoria's Angels Stitch in Clifton. Tawny will have some of my models through the month of April. Iam trying to coordinate a date to do a Meet & Greet at the shop. I'll keep you posted on that date too.
And finally the best~going to a needlework shop with my friend Patti last Friday. We went to ABC Stitch in Grantham NH. What a nice shop and they have a wonderful mail order service which I have used also. Here is a picture of my purchases. I got a couple charts and many many beautiful colors of floss for some future projects. The silver circle is a finishng form for my next ornament. I a not the best at finishing ornaments although I am enjoying sewing these days.

The other thing that is taking up my spare time is quilting. I started taking sewing classes a few months ago and started quilting. I LOVE it. I did the quilt pictured below, it still needs binding to be finished. Please excuse the sloppy picture. I didn't even straighten the fabric at the top. The batting is covered all the way around. I am using the same brown fabric in the border for the binding. The second thing I made was the sunflower table runner. The pattern is from a Thimbleberries book. The instructiosn were absolutely wonderful and sooooo easy to follow,
even for a beginner. That is todays news. I promise to update again this week with more Glory Bee news!

Ta Da! New style chart pack is finished

Obviously I made these a bit different in size, they are identical in size in "real life". They are the same size chart pack I always published. The difference is I am now printing the photo directly to the cover sheet rather than cutting out a photo and gluing it on the cover sheet. I can't even imagine how much time this will save me and it actually cost a couple cents less to print!!!! This also makes it much faster for me to get copies ready to send out so re-print turn around times will be much faster. Important to my distributors when they are awaiting charts to send to stitchers. Less time for you to wait also! I am really pleased with how they turned out. Now my poor husband will have to re-do all the disks when it's time to do re-prints. I am doing the rest of the chart the same way. Although the cover sheet and back page are 1/2 sheet (8-1/2" x 5.5"each) instead of a folded full size (8-1/2" x 11") sheet of paper. The chart inside is on a full sheet of paper folded in half. Clear as mud???? Please let me know if you like these and if not, why not.
